Scott’s Run Engagement Session

There is something special about a Scott’s Run engagement session that feels less like a photoshoot and more like an adventure together. During this engagement session in Northern Virginia, that is exactly what happened. We explored the natural scenery, made our way through the trails, and captured plenty of relaxed, romantic moments along the way. But as the session continued, we decided to make things a little more adventurous.

Getting Adventurous During Our Scott’s Run Engagement Session

One of my favorite things about engagement sessions is when couples are willing to embrace the experience and try something unexpected. Beautiful portraits are always part of the goal, but some of the best photographs happen when we stop worrying about creating the “perfect” picture and simply enjoy the moment. When we reached the water during this Scott’s Run engagement session, we saw an opportunity to create something different. Instead of only using the water as a backdrop, we decided to step in and make it part of the experience.

When Engagement Photos Feel Like an Experience

Engagement photography does not have to mean standing in one place and smiling at the camera. I want my couples to feel like they are actually doing something together. Walking through the woods, exploring the environment, laughing with each other, holding hands, and enjoying the scenery.

You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose

A lot of couples tell me they feel awkward in front of the camera. That is completely normal. You do not need to know where to put your hands, how to stand, or what you are supposed to do before your engagement session.

That is my job.

As a Northern Virginia engagement photographer, I give my couples enough direction to feel comfortable while still leaving room for natural moments to happen. One of the easiest ways to forget about the camera is to actually do something together.

Walk. Explore. Laugh. Move. Talk to each other. Turn the session into an experience instead of treating it like a photoshoot. By the time we were getting adventurous around the water during this session, the focus was not on taking pictures. It was about having fun together.

And those moments translated beautifully into photographs.
