Engagement Photo Outfit Ideas That Will Make You Look and Feel Amazing
One of the biggest questions I get from couples is, “What should we wear?” Your outfits can shape the entire vibe of your photos. Choosing the right look helps you feel confident and connected on camera. As a couples and engagement photographer, I’ve put together my go-to tips and outfit ideas to help you shine during your session.
Stick to Neutrals and Soft Colors That Photograph Well
Light neutrals, earthy tones, and soft pastels photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your connection. Try to avoid bold patterns or neon colors that can take attention away from your faces.

Dress Like You, Just a Bit More Polished
The best engagement photos reflect who you are, just with a little extra polish. Think of it like your favorite date night outfit. I usually recommend bringing one casual look and one dressier option so you get some variety.

Coordinate Colors, Don’t Match
Instead of wearing the same colors, pick tones that go well together. A two to three color palette keeps your photos looking cohesive while letting each of your styles show.
Color examples of what to wear for engagement photos: Sage green, beige, off-white, black, etc.
Match the Season and Location
Let your outfits complement the setting. In fall, cozy sweaters and boots always work well. In spring, soft fabrics and lighter tones catch natural light beautifully. If your location is outdoors, think about how your clothing moves with the wind and lighting.

Keep Accessories Simple
A few subtle accessories can add personality without being distracting. A watch, simple necklace, or a textured scarf can add just enough interest while keeping the focus on the two of you.
Bring Options and Ask for Input
The couples I work with typically bring an outfit change. One that is casual, and one that is more formal, so we capture both their everyday connection and a more romantic look. Additionally, going through Pinterest is a great idea to draw inspiration!
